Hyper Island steps it up in Stockholm
- Mattias Hansson new CEO for Swedish educational success story
This fall, the acclaimed school Hyper Island opens in Stockholm. Initially, the popular educations Digital Media Program and Interactive Art Director will be offered. Mattias Hansson will be responsible for the Stockholm effort. He was previously CEO for Jarowskij Media and has extensive experience from pioneering projects within traditional and new media.
The need for competence within digital media is ever increasing and Sweden is at the international forefront in this field. Hyper Island has existed in Karlskrona since 1995 and has, throughout the years, built a strong brand and network, nationally as well as internationally. The school’s students are hot in demand on the international agency market and demand keeps on increasing.
- We receive phone calls every week from companies across the world that are looking for interns. Every student has at least five internships to choose from and 85 percent of the students receive their dream job already before graduation. This is Sweden’s next export wonder, said Mattias Hansson, who enters into the position of CEO for Hyper Island on June 1st 2007.
The mix of theoretical studies and active, project based learning is what makes Hyper Island unique. The students often cooperate in teams to solve tasks for real and fictitious companies, thus, creating a close cooperation with businesses both nationally and internationally.
- We are relatively unknown in Sweden despite the international success of our students. But in countries like the US, England and Spain we have a very strong brand. It would surprise me if haven’t expended our operations to further countries within a few years, said Mattias Hansson further.
The ”phenomenon” Hyper Island has received a lot of attention internationally in, for example, recognized publications like Creative Review and New Media Age. Hyper Island was also used as a benchmark when the British government developed alternatives for their future educational system.
Hyper Island is currently offering three different educational programs, the Digital Media Program (90 points) which covers design as well development and project leading within digital medias and Business Management which is a two year management education aimed at creating the creative and visionary business leaders of the future. Hyper Island also offers the program Interactive Art Director Program (45 point).
